The Tivoli Guards (Danish: Tivoli Garden) were established in 1844 by Johan Bernhard Georg Carstensen.
The first leader of the guards had been had been Niels Henrik Volkerson, who had also been the first Pierrot of the Tivoli amusement park.
That is a clown with white robe, red mouth, white painted face and a twin pointed pick (a hat).
Members of the guards can be children aged from 7 years up to 16 years.
The guards are some kind of extended marching band and are subdivided into the music corps, the tambour corps , the flag sentinels (Danish: Fanevagt).
Formerly there had also been a naval artillery and a "pot of gold" (Danish: Guldkaret).
Currently there are around 50 musicians, 22 members of the tambour corps (presenting toy rifles) and 17 sentinels bearing the flag. Formely the naval artillery pulled a cannon at parade.
The guards were commonly known as "The Knaves´ Guards" (Danish: Drengegarden), because before the season of 2025 its members had been exclusively boys.
The flag has the design of a military colour, i.e. a red cloth parted by an off-centred white cross patty.
On centre under a golden coronet is a golden cypher, which ought to be that one of King Christian 8, who ruled the country in 1844.
The flag has a voided gilt spearhead as finial and a red streamer with golden inscription "TIVOLI GARDEN".
The amusement park itself has no special privilege and flies the national flag (stutflag).
